It's actually based upon the standard Snellen style eye chart you might see in your doctor's office. This type of chart is named after Herman Snellen, the Dutch ophthalmologist, who developed the chart during 1862. If you print this out at ~ 11 x 17 inches, it should be about the size of an actual eye chart.
